Ethiopia and My Four-Year-Old

One of my 4 year-old daughter’s favorite things to do is read. Often on a quiet Shabbat morning, my sweet daughter awakens me by tapping my shoulder with a book in hand. She will climb into bed with me, and I will whisper the story to her as we both do our best to allow mom and baby brother to sleep.

I’m sure you can relate to these precious times with your children. All parents know that reading is quintessential to their kids’ growth and maturing. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the eyes of an eager child widen as they learn something new through the window of a book!

I feel this same deep sense of reward whenever I am with our international MJBI students. Just back from a trip to Ethiopia in February, I had five days with our leaders and coordinators from seven locations. These faithful servants oversee the education of over 350 MJBI students. Many of them have full-time jobs and college degrees, but they passionately choose to serve the MJBI to see more future leaders raised in the Jewish communities of Africa.

It can be easy to overlook how important education and training is for the advancement of the kingdom. With many pressing needs worldwide, taking time to develop leaders can be expensive, challenging, and sometimes disappointing. It is the example of reading to my daughter that reminds me how important educational training is in the development of an individual and the advancement of the kingdom.

The same wide-eyed wonder that fills my 4-year old’s eyes as she reads a new book fills the eyes of the hungry Messianic believers in Ethiopia. Spending just one short week with them boosts their commitment and passion to reach their Jewish communities with the Gospel, and deepen the training given to those believers in MJBI schools.

At MJBI, we are seeing an entire nation of Jewish believers come alive in Ethiopia! From one school in 2011 to seven in 2016! From one congregation in 2011 to twelve in 2016! Why? In large part, because YOU have invested your prayers and finances into this ancient and miraculous work of the Lord.

Your partnership with MJBI is replicating this same wondrous learning experience that my four-year-old has each time she reads a book. The same wonder and revelation can be seen on thousands of Jewish believers around the world. This is education in action! Will you give a generous gift today? Your offering brings a blessing to Jewish people globally. We pray a Genesis 12:3 blessing on you every day!
