I just returned from a retreat in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for congregational leaders sponsored by Jewish Voice Ministries. I was privileged to participate with our Chairman, Jonathan Bernis, and some 30 leaders of five congregations, all of whom are MJBI graduates. Afterward, we had time alone with the key MJBI leadership from four different cities in Ethiopia.

We talked about challenges and vision and made plans for the future. It was a great time of building unity and purpose. I left with a new fire inside of me for the ripe harvest among the “outcasts of Israel” that remain in Ethiopia.

Below is the testimony of an MJBI graduate, Daniel Diriba. You will be inspired to read how young Ethiopian Jewish men are rising to the task of spreading the Good News and equipping others in their communities.

Many years ago, the Lord spoke an encouraging word to me, “I have chosen you to maintain the broken walls of My house. I will bring servants from afar to train and prepare you for the mission I am going to do through you.” Later after I began the MJBI courses, God reminded me and said, “This is the place you will be trained for the mission; and these are the people, whom I have brought from afar, that will prepare you.”

The MJBI has clarified my calling and saved me from wandering in confusion. I know that I am called as a teacher, and I am eager to see what doors the Lord will open for me next. I want to use my gifts in the context of Messianic ministry to reach my Jewish brothers and sisters in my community.

The MJBI is not only training leaders for the spiritual restoration of the community, but laying a strong foundation for the congregation. Beyond strengthening the body of Messiah, the MJBI is contributing to expanding the kingdom of God in the midst of the Jewish community and searching for ways to plant new congregations as well.

The biblical and Messianic foundation planted in my heart at the MJBI completely changed my perspective of the Bible. It opened my eyes, and now all of my study is rooted in a Messianic Jewish viewpoint. I now believe it is the best way to study God’s Word. I am honored and privileged to have the opportunity to receive training from this institution.

I look forward to the day the MJBI advances in my country, training and teaching more leaders, reaching more people for the sake of the Good News. The significance of Messianic theology among the Jewish people of Ethiopia is indispensable. There is a great need for expansion. We will need strong leaders to lead our people for the calling God has prepared for us.  ~Daniel Diriba

My heart rejoices to hear the heart of this young man with a bright and exciting future among his people. This is the testimony of one—a life changed by the power of God’s Word and the willingness of good men and women to train. I can’t begin to express my gratefulness to you as a friend and partner of the MJBI.

“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well” (Ecclesiastes 11:6).

Would you sow a generous gift to the MJBI today? Who can measure the worth of a life changed by His power?
