Stormy cloud formations over Jerusalem.   1. AMIDST STORMY NEGOTIATIONS, PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU GRANTED TWO MORE WEEKS TO FORM A COALITION  “I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the level; then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies and the waters will overflow the secret place (Isaiah 28:17).   “Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of Your throne; Loving-kindness and Truth go before Your face”  (Psalm 89:14).

GREEN IN THE DESERT Judean Desert just east of Jericho, photographed two weeks ago, at a time when this terrain would normally be barren and brown.    1.   LATTER RAIN…AND HAIL TO SWEEP AWAY DECEPTION. “Ask the LORD for rain in the time of the latter rain.  The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field for everyone” (Zechariah 10:1).  “I will

1.  PASSOVER WEEK CONTINUES A.  We continue through next Friday with Chag Matzot—“The Festival of Unleavened Bread.”     I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.” (John 6:51). “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump,

FRIDAY EVENING BEGINS PASSOVER AND THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD  “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened.  For indeed, Messiah, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth”  (I Corinthians 5:7-8). Friday at

1.  NETANYAHU WILL CONTINUE AT THE HELM The results of last week’s governmental elections in Israel were astounding.  For days polls had been declaring that Netanyahu’s Likud party was steadily slipping; two days before elections it was confidently forecast to have fallen several seats behind the opposition Zionist Union party of Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni.  But on Wednesday morning Israelis awakened to the astounding news that the Likud had

CRITICAL ISRAELI  ELECTIONS TUESDAY We repeat this call from last week–please pray for God’s merciful hand in the elections which will be taking place in Israel on Tuesday.  The entire government is up for election.  After elections, the President has the task of picking from the party or parties gaining the greatest number of seats a candidate whom he believes has the best chance of forming a coalition.  It is

1.  NETANYAHU SPEAKS TO CONGRESS  Last Tuesday Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu joined Winston Churchill as the only foreign leaders ever to have addressed the US Congress on three separate occasions.  It was a masterful address, focused on the topic upon which he had been requested to speak—the dangers posed by the present expansionism of Iran, and its burgeoning nuclear program—and the effectiveness to be expected by the talks presently taking place in Geneva. We are grateful for the prayers from around the world which strengthened and attended our Prime Minister in pushing through incredible opposition to deliver his message.  If you were unable to watch or read it, we would strongly encourage your doing so.  It is available many places on the web—at the following site it may be either

200-year old Megilat-Esther (Scroll of Esther) on Parchment, passed down from Norma Sarvis’ ancestors in Belarus.   1.  PURIM  This coming Thursday (beginning sundown Wednesday evening) is Purim—the day Jews celebrate their remarkable deliverance in Persia (modern day Iran) in 483 B.C. from a plot to exterminate them (Purim is from a word for a “lot” which was cast to determine the date upon which the extermination was to take place).  It is a joyous occasion: the Scroll (Book) of Esther will be read—there are Purim plays and costumes, and special pastries and desserts and wine.  In most of the Jewish world, Purim is celebrated on the 14th of Adar (5th March this year).  In Jerusalem, Jaffa, Akko and other “walled cities,” it will be celebrated, as with ancient Susa

  1.  RAIN AND SNOW We give glad thanks for all the wonderful moisture with which Israel has been blessed this week.  There were frequent steady rains throughout most of the country, and on Thursday evening an unusually late and very heavy snowstorm blanketed Israel from Mount Hermon down to Arad in the Judean desert (Jerusalem received eight inches).  The water level of the Sea of Galilee, Israel’s primary water supply, rose a record 2.16 inches (5.5 cm) in one 24 hour period alone.  We are grateful for these showers of blessings during these “Former Rains” (October-February).  Last year was one of the driest on record.  We are presently crossing over into the time of the “Latter Rains”—a time when our LORD invites to ask him for more! (Zechariah 10:1).
