Isn’t baseball great?
I love walking into the ballpark on a warm summer evening. There are people of all kinds walking around with delicious stadium food – foot-long hotdogs, nachos big enough to feed a family of four, and ice cream sundaes toppling out of an upside down baseball helmet.
In the 7th inning, everyone stands in unison and sings, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame!” Your team blasts out a home run and you erupt with joy, high-fiving all of the strangers around you. What a unifying national pastime, baseball!
Ironically, I was at a baseball game when I received a message that someone was shooting police officers in downtown Dallas. Just when I thought the tense divisions in America couldn’t get worse, they did.
We now find ourselves in uneasy, divided times. There are deep wounds of injustice in the hearts of many Americans. They are being expressed in a variety of means – protests, riots, social activism, blogging, etc. It seems these voices are getting louder and louder, and that no solution exists to calm the tension.
But that’s not true.
“For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility… thus making peace” (Ephesians 2:14-15).
The Apostle Paul is not talking about Black and White or Asian and Hispanic, however. He is talking about Jew and Gentile – one of the most ancient human divisions. Jesus breaks through the color of our skin and the heritage of our ethnicity to bring us peace with God and one another.
This is the true ministry of reconciliation: laying aside our earthly differences to recognize that we are redeemed to the Father through His Son! Only when the social activists of our day recognize this will we see true and lasting peace between people of different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
At MJBI, we thank God that we are on the very front lines of breaking down these walls of hostility. God has given us the great ministry of reconciling Jewish people to their Messiah, and reconciling Gentiles to the Jewishness of the Messiah as well! It is only through the recognition of Jesus as the Messiah that EVERY tribe, tongue and nation will experience whole and lasting peace – America included!
We need your financial support to help the MJBI accomplish this in countries around the world. The seed you sow into Jewish ministry produces leaders who are ambassadors of this Good News in places all over the world. Would you please consider a generous gift to help us today?
May God bless you, and may God bless America!
